Rotherham Harriers and Athletics Club

founded 1887

Meeting point:

The 8-lane synthetic 400 m Joe Allott track at

Herringthorpe Stadium, Middle Lane South, in Rotherham, South Yorkshire.

(not a postal contact address)

Club Objectives: to promote amateur athletics in all its disciplines and to make suitable arrangements with sponsors in so doing. The Club will represent itself to Federations to which it becomes affiliated and shall consist of amateur members in accordance to the British Athletic Federation Limited or to any other body appointed which may supersede that Federation.

At present the club has about 800 members ranging in age from 8 upwards. It's not all Young Blades; Doug Rufus (88 years young?) hopes to return from the 2000 London Marathon as one of the oldest (if not the oldest) finisher.

Club Nights are Monday and Wednesday each week from 6.00pm to 8.00pm (later in summer), meeting at the Herringthorpe Stadium, Rotherham. Training usually takes place outdoors but in the winter months indoor facilities are available. Qualified Coaches are present on all club night to instruct and guide athletes and the Club has a number of qualified Graded Officials. On Club Nights there are several groups of senior athletes/joggers/less fit who set out round the roads and (in summer) footpaths of the area, for runs of 45 to 90 minutes duration - gather at the entrance to the track at 6:30 pm.

The Club has various sections each represented by its own Secretary who reports every month to the Executive Committee.

The sections include,

Road Running and Cross Country,

Trail Running,

Track and Field,

Young Athletes,

Domestic and Social.

The Club currently partakes in competitive Track and Field leagues including
